Flow Maps

Hi!
This week we will be posting about Flow Maps! Flow Maps are great for showing sequencing and chronology.  Maybe they could be used to show the steps to a geometry proof?  Maybe they could be used to shows the steps in solving an equation?  I look forward to seeing your posts!
Happy HSAP week!

  1. I created a flow Map along with Stephanie to help the students understand the sequencing for factoring any polynomial. I have used this as a guide and tutoring for students who have struggled with decideing which method of factoring to use. It has been very helpful for them as they can following the logic to get them started.

  2. I created a flow map to show the steps for simplifying exponents. I think that this will help to bring order and clarity to students.

  3. I used the flow map with all my Algebra 2 classes. We made a flow map of factoring. The students have a difficult time knowing when to use what factoring method. The flow map helped with this. It is very easy to follow once the student identify the number of terms in the polynomial. I made this an element on the rubric of the factoring booklet. Most students liked it and said that it helped.

  4. I createad a flow map with my Geometry students on the different solids used when finding surface area & volume. It was a great way to review, and the students did well doing this alone without help. To me, the map seemed similar to that of the tree and brace map.

  5. I actually already do this when I teach proofs for Geometry. I do flow chart proofs instead of two-column proofs. While they still do not like proofs, they do seem to understand it better because most geometry proofs are not linear, which is why I feel that two-column proofs are not as good.

  6. I created a flow map on how to simplify exponents as a review. I think it helped the students understand when to do which rule.

  7. I have utlitized flow maps for much of the year when teaching the concepts of solving equations, solving inequalities, solving systems of equations, graphing equations, and graphing inequalities. Recently the students used flow maps to guide their way through constructing and solving word problems. Flow maps are great for math classes.
